Friday, A Wonderful Day to...

January 7, 2007

There are so many great websites out there, and one thing I have wanted to do is look around and see what is out there that is similar to what I am doing. I also wanted to see what websites I would like to link to mine, if they seem to be related or similar. So, you will find some links to other websites on my pages, particularly those relative to articles and features, and in the future there will be more. If you know of a site that would be relevant to the things that you find here, and would like to see me include information about it in the future, please contact me through e-mail.

Friday, A Wonderful Day to...

January 5, 2007

really get in there and get some web design going. I have finally gotten all my page templates set up, so that all I have to do now is my favorite part: researching and writing the articles. I also love the design part, especially dealing with photos and working with Adobe Photoshop. I still have a few more articles to write, but I am definitely seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Alas, there are chores to be done ...but I would really rather spend time working on my site!

Really wonderful day ...

January 4, 2007

I learned a good number of things about Dreamweaver today, some of which are pretty involved. I knew the learning curve on this was going to be high, but I think the rewards are going to be great. I am over halfway and writing articles has been so much fun. I hope to be able to launch by Monday, January 8th. That's at least my initial goal, if all goes well.

Too many diversions...

January 3, 2007

I had too many diversions today to really get as much as I had wanted done on the website, but have managed to get a couple of pages done. I have also lacked an internet connection for a good portion of the day, so that doesn’t help. With each step I am getting closer to being ready to launch. I need to set up my e-mail addresses and I have a few articles that yet need to be written, and then it shouldn’t be long. I am having a great time learning and practicing what I’ve learned! Web design is pretty amazing when you begin to ponder all the possibilities!

The second day of the new year...

January 2, 2007

...was spent un-hanging the greens which were so painstakingly crafted and hung back in December. It’s rather depressing to just throw away all that work, but this was the first time I had made fresh garlands and wreaths… and I am glad I did. I really enjoyed the natural look it had. Leyland cypress, pine, and magnolia leaves interspersed with pine cones here and there made a fresh looking (and smelling) decor, both indoors and out. The house looks rather empty now with no decorations, but I am thankful to have it done. Alas, I have had no computer time today until now. So, no progress on the website. I must admit I have been itching to get back to it all day (…would much rather have been doing that than taking down the decor!)

Took a fun quiz a few minutes ago. Which Jane Austen heroine am I? Apparently I am Elinor Dashwood... Here's the link

I am Elinor Dashwood!

Time to get moving!

The journey to charm and grace...

January 1, 2007

Well, the journey is on and what a wonderful road it promises to be. With a blank canvas to write on and so many wonderful subjects, how could I be anything but excited? As you join me in my journey, it is my hope that you will find some things useful, some things inspiring, and some things just "yummy". Charm and grace is really a state of mind, and I hope that it is yours. Please leave us feedback whenever you feel the urge... we'd love to hear what you have to say about things you like and things you'd like to see. Suggestions...

From charmandgrace.com... be blessed in the new year!

Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start...

December 31, 2006

Months ago when I began to ponder designing a website and putting it out there for all to see, my initial dream was that it would be the kind of place people would want to come back to, even if just for a few moments, because it inspired a sense of calm and beauty. And as I began to formulate in my mind what this would look like, in a very embryonic way the ideas began to come together. Many things influenced my thoughts, and a real sense of what I would want to present to the world began to develop.

The only obstacle for me was that I had just enough knowledge about website building to be dangerous, but not enough to be really proficient at it. And so began the journey to learn more and experiment with different software. For me, web design is all about appearance. (Please don't make me learn to write code!) However, as I began to discover, in this process sometimes it is necessary to learn code in order to give your site the appearance you desire. So, in a sense, this is a disclaimer that I am in the midst of learning... and I hope you will come back often and check my progress. I have learned many things from others who have embarked on similar journeys and have shared their experiences and knowledge. Some of them I go back to time and again, as I hope you will eventually do here.

So, why the name Charm & Grace, you ask? I wanted the name to suggest a feeling... a feeling that conjures warmth and goodness and beauty. (Realizing, of course, that all those things are "in the eye of the beholder.") But, truly my hope is that I will be able to choose writings, pictures, even colors, which will make you feel warm and happy... and feel like coming back.

So, the journey to bliss begins ...
