Fairy doodles…

January 27th, 2008 by Charm & Grace

I found a fun link the other day from Dawn at The Feathered Nest.  She had a link to a website where you can type in your information and it will  then give you your fairy information.

Here’s mine:

Your fairy is called Thorn Hailfilter
She is a protector of the lonely.
She lives in brambles and blackberry bushes.
She is only seen on midsummer’s eve.
She wears purple and green like berries and leaves. She has cheery turquoise wings like a butterfly.
Get your free fairy name here!

Thorn Hailfilter

So I doodled my vision of what my fairy must look like.  Sometimes you just have to reach down and let your inner child take over.  Well this is what happened when I did!  What fun…

SNOW!!!

Snowy House

Yes, it snowed in Alabama today.  Really snowed.  You may be thinking, “big deal.”  But for us it is!

View Out My Front Door

A winter white blanket.  We seldom get much snow around here, so it’s a pretty exciting event.  For my daughter, it is an answer to prayer.  She has literally been praying for snow since the first of December.  She was so excited that she went out in it in her pajamas.  It was a really nice heavy snow for a couple of hours, and it piled up… for a while.

Fortunately, it was mostly just wet on the roads and not icy.  The big chill is coming later tonight.  As for the snow, it’s mostly gone. But it was great while it lasted.

“Beauty does that to me…”

January 16th, 2008 by Charm & Grace

So says Terri McKay, Deborah Kerr’s An Affair To Remembercharacter in the movie “An Affair To Remember. ” She is in tears after meeting Nickie Ferrante’s (Cary Grant) grandmother Janou and praying in her lovely little chapel.  He looks at her, questioning her tears, and her response is, “Beauty does that to me.”

I felt that way tonight.  As I was riding home tonight, the rain was falling and the beautiful sounds of the music from Out Out of Africa Soundtrackof Africa were filling the air.  I think it is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.  It made me think of the gorgeous images in the movie of the spectacular African countryside.  And with all that in my mind and filling my senses, my eyes began to fill with tears for a moment.  All I could think of was that I wanted to channel that emotion into something creative.  I wanted to sing, to draw, to paint, to write… just anything to take that beauty and turn it into creation.

What makes you feel like that?  What gives you the drive and desire to create?  What do you do for inspiration so that your creativity is sparked?  Beautiful music is, for me, a primary source of inspiration.  Beautiful visuals also do that for me.  If I see a particularly moving movie, I am there.  I believe the source of all beauty is our Creator, and I believe He gives us our desire to create.  So, taking those emotions and channeling them into creativity must bring honor to Him.   That’s what it’s all about really.

If you’re curious or you’ve never heard it, check out the Out of Africa Soundtrack at Amazon.

This year’s theme: Fruit of Thankfulness

January 11th, 2008 by Charm & Grace

We have officially turned the page on 2008, and I wanted to share my theme for the year:  Fruit of Thankfulness.  (I like a “theme” so much better than making resolutions.)  There’s a reason for this theme, and I thought I’d share that with you dear friends who come here to read my thoughts and look at my photos.

I began 2007 with learning a higher level of web design and then launching the Charm & Grace website.  I ended 2007 by sharing with you the drawings I did for family.  In the midst of it all I was encouraged by family and friends in both these artistic endeavors, as well as others I have been involved in (painting, calligraphy, writing, even silk flower design.)  At the beginning of 2007 I realized that I would need to incorporate my business if I were going to do web design for pay.  So, I began to think and pray about what name to give my business.  As I looked for names, I discovered the Greek word for fruit, “karpos”.  When I think of creativity and the source of it, I know that my gifts have been given to me by God.  I am thankful that this past year has been a fruitful one, and my goal for this year is that my creative pursuits will yield fruit inspired by my thankfulness for all God’s many blessings.  I hope to share some “fruit” with you throughout the year, and soon I will be launching my karposinc.com website which will showcase the different facets of my business.

Not only am I thankful for all that has happened this past year in my creative endeavors, but I am also thankful for all the friends I have made through this amazing technological world.  You have enriched my life and encouraged my pursuits.  You have shared a bit of yourself with me, and for this I am truly grateful.

May each of you have a richly blessed 2008.
